Download the Windows app

To use Slate, install the free companion app on your Windows PC. It sends your PC screen to iPad over the local network or USB-C.

Windows may warn you once during install

The Windows app isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning. That's expected: click More info → Run anyway. The virtual display driver installed with it is signed by Microsoft.

Install Slate on your iPad or iPhone, too

The Windows app works with the Slate app on iPad or iPhone. Get Slate on the App Store (iPadOS or iOS 17 or later). Every connection includes 15 free minutes, counted from the moment your PC screen first appears.

Then follow the complete setup guide to pair your devices, choose Extend in Windows and move your first window onto the iPad.

Install steps

  1. Click the download button above to get the MSI file.
  2. Double-click the MSI file.
  3. If SmartScreen appears, click More info → Run anyway.
  4. When User Account Control prompts you, click Yes.
  5. After installation, the Slate icon appears in your system tray.
  6. Open the latest Slate on both devices on the same router. Allow Local Network access on iPad. On the first Wi-Fi connection, compare the six-digit codes and approve on both devices. For USB-C, unlock iPad and allow the trust prompt.

System requirements

Why does SmartScreen appear?

Microsoft SmartScreen scores newly distributed executables by reputation. Unsigned new files receive warnings until they build enough download history. The warning doesn't mean the file is malware — it just means there isn't enough usage data yet.

Slate is in its early launch phase and is distributed without a signing certificate to keep costs down. We plan to add code signing once we have enough users. In the meantime, the SHA-256 value under "Verify the file" lets you confirm the file hasn't been tampered with.

What gets installed

Uninstall

Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → "Slate" → Uninstall. Apple Devices / iTunes are not removed because other Apple software may rely on them.

Run into a problem?

If installation fails or your iPad isn't recognized, check the connection diagnostic to find your symptom, or the support page for detailed help, review the wireless setup guide, or email support@slatedisplay.app.
